5 Handy Tips to Feeling Confident When Presenting to Camera

Want to be more confident when presenting to camera? Come and check out our 5 tips to doing just that, so that your presentations hit all the right marks!

Anyone who’s ever stood up in front of a camera and tried to present will know that it’s not as easy some people can make it look. Not all of us are naturally confident when the focus is all centred on every word we’re saying, often resulting in less-than-perfect performance. However, the good news is that there is on-camera training  available to help you become a better, more relaxed presenter.

Whether you’re a vlogger, a tv presenter or even a business owner looking to make engaging content videos for their marketing, being able to confidently vocalise whatever message you’re trying to convey is extremely important if you want your viewers to take you seriously. With this in mind, we now offer 5 handy tips to achieving confident on-camera presentation.

So, if you’re ready, let’s begin.

Tip #1 – Confident Body Language

As you get to learn when taking the best online presenter training courses , your body language speaks volumes about you. This non-verbal communication is said to make up a massive 55% of what viewers think about you, so it’s important to get it right.

You should make sure to stand up straight (not hunched), as this not only makes you look more authoritative, but also this ‘power pose’ is also said to alter your body chemistry, with a lowering of the stress hormone, cortisol and a raising of your testosterone levels that make you feel more powerful.

Tip #2 – Do Your Best to Be Yourself

Our next tip might seem like something everyone says when you’re about to do something nerve-wracking, but being yourself is important, as it can be really obvious when you’re outside of your comfort zone. Whether you’re engaging in a Zoom call interview or a vlog you’re about to do, letting your real self come to the fore will really help.

A good TV presenter course  will teach you that you should do your best to avoid appearing stiff or formal and part of that is being prepared (which we’ll cover shortly). If you want more detailed tips on how to achieve this, you can find them by watching this YouTube video created by our very own Brian Naylor.

Tip #3 – Letting Your Innate Charm & Charisma Show

Another part of your presentation ability that on-camera training  allows you to develop is allowing your personality, charisma and charm come to the fore. This doesn’t mean trying to win the audience over by trying too hard, as most viewers will see this as a little bit desperate – and it won’t make you look good.

You don’t have to be perfect in front of the camera to be charismatic either, as charming people make mistakes too! It’s about being relaxed, prepared and comfortable in your own skin and if you mess up or stumble, reacting to it in a confident and relaxed way will set you apart.

Tip #4 – Look Directly at the Camera!

When you’re speaking to someone face to face, looking at them directly in the eye for too long might make them a bit uncomfortable – as is the case if you avoid eye contact too much. However, when presenting, it’s all about the eye-contact as your viewers need to trust what you’re saying.

Looking into the camera the whole time won’t make your viewers feel like you’re staring, as the camera removes most of this intensity. However, it will be obvious if you keep looking away and it will impact your presentation.

Tip #5 – Be Fully Prepared & Don’t Wing It

When you’re not prepared for anything important, it can make you feel nervous and this certainly applies to presenting. Page one of most online presenter courses  will cover the fact that preparation before presenting is an absolute must or your lack of confidence of your subject can translate to a nervous performance.

The ability to ad-lib is a great safety net, however, even those who are really good at it can’t ad-lib forever, so you should be sure to practice, practice, practice your script!
