3 Tips to make sure you get work as a TV Presenter

There are so many job opportunities in presenting, but how do you get work? The reality is that most and the best presenter jobs are filled without being advertised on casting websites and it’s all about making direct contact and ensuring your presenter showreel lands on the decision maker’s desk at the right time.

Here are just 3 things that we cover in our step by step career strategy as part of our TV Presenter training:

1.Making Direct Contact.

When you’re making direct contact with a producer or casting professional, make sure your showreel along with your email/letter is relevant to the person you are sending it to and is personal. NEVER copy and paste! Do your research thoroughly, why would the skills you have be right for their production? What can you bring to the table? You should never be writing to them saying anything like ‘It’s my dream to be a presenter’ or ‘All my friends say I’d make a great presenter’. No tv producer will take you seriously as a professional tv presenter. Make sure you have watched the tv show and make reference, a simple compliment not only shows you’ve watched the show  but can go a long way.

2.Keep producers and casting directors updated.

Re-send them your CV and showreel when you have something new to tell them. It’s all about your showreel landing at the right time and staying fresh their mind incase an opportunities arises. A producer recently told us they were surprised how few presenters ‘pester’ them with their reels and updates. Don’t just send your showreel once and expect a job.

3. Work on building relationships, networking and getting noticed.

Although there are some great casting websites out there and presenters do get work from them, most mainstream presenter jobs are filled before then. Networking, excellent personal branding and getting a good reputation for yourself is essential for any presenter for their career growth.

These are just 3 tips from our step by step career strategy on our presenter courses which is designed to not only become an expert on-screen communicator and use the tools of the trade expected from a professional presenter, you’ll also gain a clear understanding of what steps and actions are needed to obtain presenting work which includes examples of CV’s, how to write cover letters and finding industry contacts.
